How is the exam conducted?

WSET Level 3 is assessed through a combination of written and tasting examinations. The exam is in-person at the Capital Wine School in Washington, D.C.

The written exam consists of two parts: a multiple-choice section and a short-answer section. The tasting exam assesses a candidate's ability to identify the style, quality, and origin of wines tasted blind. To pass the course and receive certification, a candidate must achieve a minimum score on both the written and tasting exams.

How should I prepare for each class session?

We recommend that you have two clean glasses ready, and that you have red wines open and white wines chilled for tasting during each class. Your instructor will provide additional instructions if needed during the course. It is also a good idea to review the study materials before each session to help reinforce your understanding of the topics covered.

What are the pre-requisites to take the WSET Level 3 course?

The WSET Level 3 exam has no formal prerequisites, but it is recommended that candidates hold the WSET Level 2 Award in Wines or have equivalent knowledge before taking the course.
